Great coffee with endless choices of flavor! Never have I seen a shop so unique with the options there menu provides between flavors and milk options! Definitely give them a try if you're in the Reno area!

It's so unusual anymore to find a truly non-corporate place. A lot of local shops are going for the sort-of industrial, sterile aesthetic. Purple Bean has handwritten stuff everywhere. Places on the walls where regulars and others wrote little messages. It's cozy and all decked out for Halloween, even with hand-carved pumpkins. The young woman at the counter is so polite and friendly it's making all the other shops feel weird by comparison. Oh yeah, the coffee's good too.

'Honey, I know, I know
I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out
For something new, that means you too...
Purple bean, purple bean
Purple bean, purple bean
If you know what I'm singing about up here
C'mon, raise your hand.
You say you want a leader
But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple bean.'
I reached out for something new while on vacation in Reno when I needed my caffeine fix and it led me to Purple Bean and the rest is Yelp history.
Their menu is expansive, lots of froo-froo drinks- way more options than any other coffee shop in town and let's not even mention Starbucks (ok, I just did). Warm Apple Pie, Sticky Buns, Cherry Garcia, Snickers, Almond Joy, Hawaiian, Skittles Purplechino (Frapp) just to name a few.
My favorite drinks, are the Warm Apple Pie and Hawaiian Breve Lattes. All of their drinks taste exactly like their description, but these two were my all time favorite. The WAP tasted like I was eating a slice that had just came out of Grandma's oven. The Hawaiian had equal parts pineapple, coconut and banana, all that was missing was the lei.
The coffee was really smooth and you could actually taste it, which I've found isn't always the case at some of these types of shops. A lot of times they mask the coffee with all of the syrups and milk, but not here. You don't get the fancy art work, but you get the full bodied flavor in each drink.
Their Purplechino's, which are their vs of Frapp's, are just as great as their hot drinks. My favorite was their Skittles. They were out of their standard lemon base so they used Cotton Candy which was fine by me cause it all tasted like the rainbow.
I enjoyed all of their drinks so much so that I came here all but 2 days while I was on my trip. I started a stamp card and on my last day I was able to redeem a free drink. They also have a new featured drink every day of the week at a slightly discounted price. Worth mentioning, they don't only sell coffee but also muffins, cookies and smoothies.
Only reason I took a star off (really only a 1/2) is because when I had originally ordered the Skittles drink it came chock full of Skittle pieces blended in, pieces that you could still chew once sucked thru the straw. Another visit, there were no chewable pieces, they were all liquified. Then, I ordered a drink and they had to remake it (it was a different girl from the one who had been making my drinks) because it was absolutely flavorless.
Employees are super chill and friendly. These girls work their tail ends off, on all of my visits it was only 1 working and they have to tend to inside as well as drive thru orders, but they don't skip a beat. -

Good coffee takes time. Like, it didn't just fall of a tree or bush and turn itself into some magical creamy blend of legal-sugar-speed-just-for-you. I know Starbucks may have convinced you otherwise. Honestly, the joy that ensures from people who know how to do coffee right is worth an extra 15minutes in my day forever. I just moved to town and this place is gold. Farewell, Starbucks for you know nothing, not alike a certain Jon Snow...
